In order to attract young specialists, Sovcomflot is developing cooperation with Russian maritime educational institutions. The programme includes participation in the preparation and training of future professionals, the annual organization of shipboard training and regular meetings with students.

Over the past year,187 cadets from Ushakov State Maritime University, Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping and Admiral Nevelskoy Maritime State University have been sent for navigation practice, along with 30 trainee seamen and trainee motormen. After the cadets have passed externship on the company’s vessels, and HR specialists select the most promising graduates for future employment, according to the externship results, the average score of diploma of education and the characteristics of the educational institution.

In partnership with leading Russian maritime universities, Sovcomflot implements targeted training programmes for young naval officers.

In the current academic year, task force of Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping cadets consists of 15 navigators, 10 engineers and 5 electricians. During the year, all students of the target group have passed externship in the SCF fleet. In 2015, 18 students will receive diplomas, and all of them will be employed on the company’s vessels.

In 2014, a new joint project of SCF and Admiral Ushakov SUMIS was launched. 55 cadets were selected and began training in the Navigator, Ship Engineer and Electrician faculties. Training is carried out under programmes tailored to SCF Group’s requirements. The project is financed by public funds. The company is planning to offer scholarships to cadets and to participate in purchasing additional equipment for classrooms.

There is currently a serious shortage of professional seamen in the global fleet, which is why SCF pays particular attention to the training of qualified rank-and-file personnel, according to their needs and the specifics of the Group’s fleet. SCF implements a joint project to train seamen operating as electric and gas welders and turners in Novorossiysk College of Building and Economics. The company also recommends the best technically trained motormen and seamen for pumpman positions and provides the necessary additional training.
